"I Love Home" Borders and Giveaway

My "I Love Home" quilt is coming together. Woohoo!

Today is the release of the border and sashing (the borders in between the blocks) instructions for the Jacquelynne Steves "I Love Home" Block-of-the-Month quilt along.

I laid out some of the border fabric with my blocks so I could get a sense of what my quilt will look like. I don't have every detail of the borders, but I can still see the overall effect. I think the quilt definitely shows off the pretty blue floral fabric that was the starting point for my fabric picking.

Check out my quilt so far below.

Obviously, I need to finish up Block 4 before I get started on borders. So in tonight's Facebook Live I'll be working on Block 4 instead of jumping into the borders and sashing. I'll get to those later this week.

The center square of Block 4 all by its lonesome.
Block 4 took a bit longer because I did more needle turn appliqué than the other blocks. But I'm getting SO MUCH BETTER at it. I'm thrilled! I was able to fully relax into the zen mode of needle turn this time.

Mission accomplished.

Besides getting better at needle turn appliqué, my other goals for this project were to try out the style of needle turn appliqué and embroidery together, to use fabric entirely from my stash, and to push myself with color in a way I don't normally do.

So far I'm very happy with everything.

I hope you join me tonight while I start sewing the rest of Block 4.

  1. Didn't discover the Home blocks until just recently. Saved some of them and will start after Christmas making them. Love the combo of quilting and embroidery.

    1. Thanks! The needle turn appliqué and embroidery have been so fun to do. Make sure you download all of the instructions before the end of December. They go away after that and won't be downloadable.

  2. If you haven't quilted anything yet, then I guess you haven't broken any rules!

    1. Heh heh. Hoping to get some free-motion quilting practice in before quilting this fellah.

  3. I plan to color my blocks first and then embroidery them. I wonderful to see someone else mixes up techniques!

    1. Oooo! That sounds so fun! I'm going to be working on a coloring fabric + embroidery project next week during my Facebook Lives. It's going to be my first time trying it out. I'm excited!

  4. Just recently joined so I have not started on the homes yet. I love quilting and embroidery mixed. I am working on "Heirloom Memories" by Crabapple Hill. It has 8 embroidered blocks of old fashioned purses mixed with the quilt blocks. It is stunning and very fun to create.

    1. It sounds so sweet! If you did want to download the house instructions. Make sure to download them before the end of December. After that they won't be available anymore.

  5. I just found your videos on YouTube and love watching them. I haven't started the Love Home BOM yet, but I think I will have to do a combo of needle turn and embroidery too.

    1. I'm so happy you like the vids!!! I'm having a ton of fun doing the combo needle turn and embroidery. Be sure to download the house instructions before the end of December. After that they won't be available anymore.

  6. Oooo! That sounds so fun!..

  7. Woah! I'm really enjoying the template/theme of this website. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's very difficult to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and visual appeal. I must say you've done a fantastic job with this. Also, the blog loads very quick for me on Opera. Outstanding Blog! Sardine Run updates
